Ice Cream Castle (1984) -- Ice Cream Castle is worth having, if for no other reason, because it is the companion piece to Prince's Purple Rain album and works that way as the second disc of a two-disc soundtrack (don't forget that many of these songs were featured in the movie just as prominently as Prince songs were). The good and bad of this album is its two major components: its comedy and its jams. The comedy of stuff like "Chili Sauce" is pretty funny, but I'm not sure how often I'd want to listen to it since it's more like listening to a comedy album or skit than a song, and there's a bit of this throughout the album. The best part of the album is jams like "Jungle Love" and "The Bird," and their length only help the songs, but for songs like "Ice Cream Castles" or "If the Kid Can't Make You Come," eight minutes is just too long. So it's not quite Purple Rain, but it sho' is fun anyway. B
