Director of big-budget goofball (but fun) popcorn movies like Independence Day, Godzilla, and The Day After Tomorrow.
Independence Day (1996) -- Oh, it's stupid as all hell, but I find it pretty entertaining. Chalk it up to parody if it helps you enjoy it (though it's not--everyone here is completely serious): computer viruses, saving dogs, and all. Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith show off their usual charm, and the aliens bent on nothing but destruction and death of all humans is loads o' fun. It took me maybe a decade to realize it, but I appreciate this movie for all that it's worth. B
