1408 (2007) -- This doesn't do the typical stuff of current horror movies or ghost stories, but instead is simply about an "evil fucking room" and the weird thing it does to people and -- more importantly -- the completely charming character John Cusack (a completely charming actor) plays. It's got a good build-up and interplay with Samuel L. Jackson, and the tricks of the room play out nicely and even logically (something often missing in these kinds of things).
