Actor, editor, screenwriter, and director.
Zach Galifianakis: Live at the Purple Onion (2005) -- Zach does his
bearded hipster version of Steven Wright on a piano routine, intercut with Brian
Unger interviewing Zach's "twin brother" Seth (Zach without a beard). Both
parts of the movie are funny, and this more than just a live comedy performance.
The Comedians of Comedy (2005) -- Shot in one of my favorite documentary
styles: point a bunch of cameras at the subject and edit together the most
interesting pieces in roughly chronological order, not trying to force a
narrative. The movie features not only the performances of Patton Oswalt,
Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, and Zach Galifianakis, but also their on-the-road
antics and philosophies. They are entertaining throughout, and the
documentary keeps a speedy pace. It helps to be a fan of the entertainers,
but fans of the comedy lifestyle will also appreciate this movie.
