The Shop on Main Street (1965) -- Directed with Elmar Klos.  Most notable for the subtle comedy that is blended throughout the very serious situation of the deportation of Jews to Nazi labor camps.  This blend would be similarly effective (though not nearly as subtle) in Life Is Beautiful a few decades later.  The movie has its flaws: it takes a while to get started, is a bit too long, and the resolution is somewhat of a cop-out... but for the most part, its sweet and funny tone works great and the lead actor (Josef Kroner) is great, like the Czech version of Jack Klugman.
