Went big and fizzled.
Planet of the Apes (1968) -- This movie is like if a Twilight Zone episode were slightly more than a trick ending... but maybe only slightly. The movie is a bit too obvious with its social commentary, but I guess that's part of the charm. The film works in spite of itself. (See Ted Post for the sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes.) B
