Primarily a screenwriter and playwright, and usually a good one, he also directs. I'll watch more of his movies soon.
Catastrophe (2000) -- A six minute movie part of the "Beckett on Film" series, this is one of the better shorts. Harold Pinter stars, and of course he's great and sassy, and David Mamet keeps the camera lively and interesting. The silent role of the "catastrophe" in the play is performed by no less a guy than Sir John Gielgud. B
State and Main (2000) -- David Mamet's attempt to do The Player which might not have been as bad if he hadn't been so annoyingly "clever" with the dialogue... or maybe it was just bad all around. D
