The Man With No Name and Dirty Harry also directs bad movies.
Mystic River (2003) -- Potentially-interesting situation amounts to nothing by the end of the story. The ending, I suppose, wants to have a "Forget it, Jake: it's Chinatown" sort of conclusion, but it doesn't work here. Overdramatic performances (especially from Sean Penn) and direction certainly trick you (and the Oscars) into thinking you're watching something important for a while, until you realize... no. The musical score that Clint Eastwood wrote is also annoying and simplistically bad.
